The City of Mississauga is celebrating Earth Days 2018 with a series of themed events happening across the city, such as 20-Minute Makeover, E-Waste and Textiles Collection, Litter Awareness Blitz, One Million Trees Earth Day Tree Plantings and various activities across library branches.

The following events are taking place in Ward 5:

Litter Awareness Blitz
Friday, April 20: 8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m

Chat with our Transit Enforcement Officers, MiWay customer ambassadors and the MiWay Outreach Team about sustainable transportation and litter awareness at the following terminals

E-Waste and Textiles Collection

The City of Mississauga along with Partners in Project Green, Diabetes Canada, and Revolution Recycling are organizing a recycling collection drive in support of Earth Days, April 16 to 22. Throughout the week, residents can drop off their unwanted electronics and used clothing at no charge to Civic Centre, Central Library or one of City¿s community centers and arenas. All week long, residents can drop off the following recyclable items:

  • Clothing-based items and textiles, including: clothing, hats, bags, belts, ties, footwear, bedding, pillows, linens, curtains, sleeping bags and yarn. All clothing items will be donated to the Canadian Diabetes Association¿s Clothesline Program.
  • Electronic waste, including: laptops, desktop computers, monitors, keyboards/mice, cell phones, electronic accessories, audio and video equipment, network equipment, video game consoles, wires, scanners, cable receivers, portable digital music players, televisions, batteries, fax machines, medical devices, printers, tonner and ink cartridges. Please note that CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes will not be accepted. All electronic items will be donated to Revolution Recycling.

Guardians of the Garden Camp Kick-Off

Iceland Teaching Garden

In partnership with Ecosource, we’re hosting a garden-themed learning camp for kids this summer! Join us at the Iceland Teaching Garden to celebrate Earth Days and kick-off the Guardians of the Garden camp. Families and children will have a chance to explore camp activities, plant a seed or seedling in the garden and enjoy snacks made from local veggies. We invite you to wear your favourite superhero costume and join us in the garden for some fun! This event is free and open to all.
