Coun. Carolyn Parrish is irate over the proposed closure of the Malton police station.

Located inside Westwood Square, the station serves the Ward 5 community, an area that has historically been plagued with high crime rates. It is part of Peel police 21 Division and serves as a local hub within the mall where residents can report crimes, neighbourhood concerns and explore crime prevention initiatives.

However, due to financial considerations, the Peel Police Services Board is recommending its closure.

“This is a travesty,” said Parrish. “The fact that there’s a big police sign at the front of that entrance makes that plaza calmer and safer and productive.”
