On Thursday, April 6th, Councillor Parrish put a motion forward at Regional Council to hire a consulting firm to design and outline costs of coverting Lincoln Alexander Secondary School’s unused swimming pool into a Youth Centre. With over 8,000 square feet on the ground floor for a drop-in centre with computers, music, television, card tables, a small stage, a kitchen and comfortable seating. A 40% mezzanine will house health and social services geared to young people, of which there are 19,000 in Malton. Breakfast programs and after school snacks will be available as well as classes on nutrition.
We will survey residents before naming the building, but many have expressed desire to bring back the original “Westwood” name of the school in some form, so that will definitely be one of the selections to vote on.
