This weekend, get into the excitement of the Pan Am Games! On Saturday, drop in at the Hershey Centre and try some free combative sports. And on Sunday, check out the Torch Relay as it makes its way from Celebration Square to Port Credit.


The Viva Mississauga Combative Sports Event is a free community event, funded by the TO2015 Ignite Program. It is an interactive demonstration focusing on the combative sports of taekwondo, wrestling, judo, karate and kung fu. Entertainment will include a colourful kung fu presentation of over 50 performers, drumming shows, a live orchestra, lion and dragon dance teams and folk dances. Educational exhibitions of each sport will also be onsite led by local athletes Ohenewa Akuffo, Canadian Olympian and two-time silver medalist at the Pan Am Games, and Anthony Carelli, Canadian professional wrestler.


The event will take place at the Hershey Sports Complex located next to the Mississauga Sports Centre (MIS) (known as the Hershey Centre); it will be the venue for the Pan Am sports of judo, karate, taekwondo, and wrestling and the Parapan Am sports of goal ball, powerlifting and wheelchair rugby.

  • 11 a.m. The Flame arrives at Mississauga Celebration Square
    • Watch history unfold as the TO2015 Pan Am flame arrives. Jack Ranieri, community torchbearer is the first Mississauga resident to carry the flame!
  • 11:30 a.m. Torch Relay will travel south on Hurontario Street to the Mississauga Waterfront Festival in Port Credit Memorial Park
    • Grab your spot along Hurontario and cheer on our torchbearers as the flame travels to Port Credit Memorial Park.
  • 1 p.m. Day Celebration at Port Credit Memorial Park
    • In partnership with the Mississauga Waterfront Festival, celebrate the arrival of the Pan Am flame! The community cauldron will be lit and the celebration begins with performances by headliners illScarlett and Carlos Bastidas!
